Halocarbons

Ozone-depleting substances

On December 23, 2004, the Regulation respecting halocarbons came into force and replaced the Regulation respecting ozone-depleting substances which had been adopted in 1993. This reform resulting from international amendments made to the Montreal Protocol was required because of the appearance of new substances replacing ozone-depleting substances.

The objective of this Regulation is to reduce the emission of halocarbons into the atmosphere to protect the ozone layer and minimize increases in greenhouse gases linked to emissions of an anthropic origin caused by specific halocarbons.
