At the World Conference on Climate Change in The Hague

Québec, November 22, 2000 – The Minister of Natural Resources, Jacques Brassard, and the Minister of the Environment, Paul Bégin, congratulate Econoler International on being awarded the "Climate Technology Leadership Award". This award was attributed to the Québec firm yesterday evening in The Hague by the International Energy Agency (IEA) and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), as part of the World Conference on Climate Change. The award was given to Econoler International for its exceptional contributions in developing the concept of Energy Service Companies in transition and developing countries.

The award was handed to Pierre Langlois, President of Econoler International, whose head office is located in Québec City. More than twenty competitors from fourteen countries were up for the prestigious award. The seven climate change experts who made up the jury were impressed with Econoler's achievements, particularly in the area of expedient implementation of climate related technologies in developing countries.

Econoler International is a subsidiary of Hydro-Québec International and Dessau-Soprin. It specializes in the startup and operation of energy service companies. It is a leader in energy efficiency projects as well as in Demand Side Management projects in both industrialized and developing countries. Econoler International has acquired a unique expertise in the energy efficiency sector by carrying out more than 2500 projects worldwide.

«This prize awarded to a Québec firm for its contribution to the startup and realization of several projects around the world in the field of energy efficiency bears witness to the know-how developed by Québeckers in energy related matters. We have every right to be proud. And we are all the more proud that these past years the Ministère des Ressources naturelles has helped fund work by Econoler to develop energy management systems,» the Minister of Natural Resources, Jacques Brassard, declared.

For his part, the Minister of the Environment, Paul Bégin, who is leading the Québec delegation at the World Conference on Climate Change in The Hague, underscored Econoler International's excellent work. He added, «I invite this Québec firm and others to go on carrying out far-reaching projects that, following the example of the prize-winning projects recognized this evening, will better the Earth's environment and lead to the recognition of Québec's expertise.»
