Draft Government Sustainable Development Strategy

On October 2, 2007, the Minister of Sustainable Development, Environment and Parks unveiled the draft Government Sustainable Development Strategy, which is a key element of the Sustainable Development Act, adopted in 2006. The Minister also announced the launch of an on-line public consultation, and a parliamentary commission, both held from October 2 to November 12, 2007.

During this period, 185 position papers and opinions were received. Participants, citizens and organizations alike expressed their views and conveyed their recommendations on the draft strategy. Thirty-one organizations, from all walks of society, were heard during proceedings of the Committee on Transportation and the Environment held in the National Assembly from October 17 to November 8, 2007. The commission adopted several of the recommendations at a work session held on November 14, 2007.

To serve as an example, the Minister on October 2, 2007, also launched her department's Draft Sustainable Development Action Plan 2007-2012 – abridged version - French PDF file, 104 ko (Printing Format: legal, 81/2'' X 14''). The action plan will be edited on the basis of the feedback received during the public consultation.
