Environmental analysis grid for fish farming based on total phosphorus discharge

The MDDELCC has designed an environmental analysis grid for fish farming that explains how applications for increased production of existing or new fish farms are handled.

The purpose of this approach is to explain the environmental requirements that apply to various types of receiving mediums and companies. The grid was designed for salmonid farming, but it can also be used as a reference tool for other types of land-based fish farming. The grid also takes into account the compliance status of existing companies and enables equivalent and fair processing of all applications for fish farming authorization throughout Québec, whether or not projects abide by the STRADDAQ initiative. The aim of the environmental analysis grid for fish farming is to improve the protection of aquatic environments with respect to phosphorus emissions in fish farming effluent.
